Cape Town
Leigh Brown Leigh Brown completed her Permaculture Design Course and a year of on-ground work at the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia in 1999. She restarted the sleeping SEED in 2000 and has been building the organisation ever since. Leigh believes in the work that SEED is doing and is committed to mobilising resources and providing strategic guidance for SEED.
Yoliswa Mahobe Yoliswa Mahobe Yoliswa studied Horticulture at Cape Technikon and worked in different sectors of the plant industry before joining SEED in 2008 as a Permaculture Learner. Yoli is facilitating the Green Beginning Phase of the Organic Classroom at four Cape Flats schools in 2010. Yoli is excited to use Permaculture to create abundant productive systems in an urban environment.
Carvine Guyo Carvine Guyo Carvine is a 31 year old man with a descent amount of accounting experience that spans close to 8 years across various industries, retail, cellular and now non profit sector. He is currently studying towards a UK based accounting Qualification, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). The slogan that keeps Carvine sane is "Keep Calm and Carry On."
Theophilus Oldjohn Theophilus Oldjohn Theo Oldjohn has extensive experience in leading projects, leadership coaching, community development and gourmet mushroom cultivation. He is a research and development coordinator for Western Cape Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development (YARD) and also an Associate for Intando Leadership Coaches (ILC) Company. Theo ably facilitated the Green Business Phase of the Organic Classroom Program in the Cape Flats and looks at ways of building abundance through harnessing natural capital.
Mzukisi Zele Mzukisi Zele has been involved with Permaculture since 2006 when he volunteered for SEED in Cape Town. He learned about garden design and facilitating enviromental education by working with SEED staff and attending workshops. He is now working at delivering the Organic Classroom Programme and enriching the systems at Rocklands Training Institute.
Bood Carver Bood Carver worked as a musician,scenic artist and project manager before joining Seed. He managed a farm, implemented organic gardens and trained in Permaculture. Bood loves singing to plants before he eats them and is grateful that they don't sing back. Bood is facilitating the Green Beginning Phase of the Organic Classroom Program at four Cape Flats schools in 2010.
National Facilitators
Alex Kruger Alex Kruger did her Permaculture Design Course at Famdidzanai Training Centre in Zimbabwe in 1993. Since then she has taught Design Courses, managed community projects and worked extensively in South Africa. Her passions are training, seed banking, earth building and developing training materials. She has been involved in the SEED schools programme for five years. Alex's work for the Organic Classroom includes mentoring facilitators and monitoring and evaluating participating schools. She is also teaching the short courses and the Accredited Permaculture Training from Rocklands Training Centre
Tina De Waal Tina De Waal did her Permaculture Design Certificate in 1998 at Wildrock Farm. She runs her own nursery, is a facilitator par-excellance and is in love with earth worms. Tina can be found delivering the Organic Classroom Program to three schools in Johannesburg.
Philippa Mallac Philippa Mallac was first introduced to Permaculture in 1998 and spent years working practically before starting to facilitate in 2004. Philippa believes in living the dream of a simple, abundant, creative, sustainable, diverse and healthy life. She is a bee keeper, committed seed saver, garden gnome. Philippa teachers the Teachers for Permaculture Education Five Day and has been working on materials development.
Eidin Griffin Eidin Griffin Eidin has been working with permaculture and sustainable living for over ten years. She's also been a clown, comedian, facilitator, artist and writer. Eidin can be found jumping around gardens in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands helping people laugh and garden at the same time. Eiding is facilitating the Organic Classroom Program at one school in Nottingham Road.
Wendy Crawford's Wendy Crawford's work in Permaculture and Biodynamics keeps her inspired and passionate by being able to share and facilitate knowledge and skills that enable others to work insightfully& productively with the wealth in their natural ecologies as well as the wealth within themselves. Wendy worked full time for seed 2007-2008, co-facilitated the APT in 2009 and returns to teach short courses this year.
Rudzane Maphopa Rudzane Maphopa comes from Manavhela village outside of Louis Trichardt in Venda, Limpopo. A participant in the 10-week Permaculture training at the Leshiba Indigenous Knowledge Center, Rudzani is an excellent peer mentor and a natural facilitator. He comes to the SEED project at Magovhani eager to contribute, and full of enthusiasm and dedication.
Rita Masala Rita Masala comes from Tshiozwi village outside of Louis Trichardt in Venda, Limpopo. Rita was introduced to Permaculture through participation in the 10-week Applied Permaculture Training at Leshiba Indigenous Knowledge Center. Rita has great skill in implementation of homestead food garden methods - she has her own garden and markets organic vegetables and plants within her community. A former student of Maghovani primary, she is excited to be bringing SEED to her old school.
Lindsay Dozoretz Lindsay Dozoretz comes from the United States as a Congressional Hunger Fellow. She has been involved in sustainable development for over 10 years, and has worked in communities in Brazil, Senegal, Mozambique and the U.S.A. She received her Permaculture Design Certificate from the Permaculture Institute in New Mexico in 2007. Lindsay currently supports the rollout of SEED in Gauteng and Limpopo.
Volunteers
Miriam Miriam is an amazing young woman who has come to SEED through the SAGE Net patnership. She plans to be with SEED for a total of two years and is helping to deliver the Organic Classroom Program in the Cape Flats.
Philipp Gieseler Philipp Gieseler grew up in a small Town in northern Germany. He studied Communication Design in the Netherlands, where he encountered sustainable design and decided that he wanted to work in an ecological Project after graduating. He enjoys working with SEED since I joined in August 2009. He feels he has learned many things and got a lot of inspiration for what he wants to do in future.
